BCBP Student Seminar Series (by students for students only)
January 21, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
We are excited to resume our department student seminar series this semester!
Details:
- All student seminars are scheduled on the third Thursday of each month from October to April and begin at 12:00 PM, see the following table.
- Seminars will also be scheduled on the Outlook Calendar app which have built-in 1-week and 1-day reminders for the seminar.
- All seminars should be accessible using a zoom link. (Zoom link on student listserv).
- Each seminar consists of either 2 or 3 20-minute presentation slots.
- 1 minute for introductions, 15 minutes for a short presentation, and 4 minutes for questions.
- Before presenting, seminar speakers will be introduced by another student within the department (1-minute time frame), see the following table.
- After presenting, the Q&A session will be led by the person who introduced the speaker (4-minute time frame).
- Presenters are encouraged but not required to begin with one slide introducing themselves outside of their research!
- The introducer and facilitator is responsible for 1) introducing the seminar speaker (where they completed their undergraduate degree, what their general research interests are, another fun fact…) and 2) leading the Q&A session and having a prepared question to start the Q&A session if necessary.
- As the introducer and facilitator, please email your speaker a few days beforehand to discuss their introduction and research.
- Please note that some introducers have been assigned two speakers throughout the course of the year!
- Seminar presenters are ordered by class status, beginning with senior graduate students and ending with the current third years.
- Students are exempt from presenting in the student seminar series if they present in Saskia’s presentation course.
- Please let us know if you have another speaking opportunity and would like to be removed from this semester’s presentation list.
- At the end of the semester, speakers will be awarded for excellence in different presentation criteria!
- At the end of each seminar, please use this form to nominate each speaker for up to two of the following awards:
- Excellent presentation organization and clarity
- Excellent visual aids/appeal
- Ability to connect with the audience
- Excellent timing/pacing of presentation
- Overall outstanding presentation
- At the end of each seminar, please use this form to nominate each speaker for up to two of the following awards:
