Understanding and Navigating Microaggressions

May 26, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

As a part of the faculty meeting this Thursday (May 26th) we will be doing a DEI training. This is an opportunity for all members of the department to obtain DEI training credits if you would like to join us.

The trainer will be Dr. Stephanie Brown, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (SOM). Attached is information that you will need to review before the meeting and below is a more detailed description of the training. The training will last for 60 minutes and begins promptly at 12:00 noon. Please note that this is a zoom meeting and not a teams meeting.

Understanding and Navigating Microaggressions

This training will explore the concept of microaggressions. It will explain important terminology related to microaggressions and will discuss some of the reasons that microaggressions can be challenging to identify and address. The training will give participants the opportunity to work in small groups to analyze specific examples of microaggressions that occur commonly in different SOM work and learning environments and to talk about how these might be handled in the future.

The training will require active participation, so please request that the faculty be present and prepared to engage with the content. Also, we encourage you to invite any interested staff, trainees, or students in your department.

73 people were in attendance for this meeting.
