Chrystal Starbird in lab
Dr. Chrystal Ama Starbird

Dr. Chrystal Ama Starbird, incoming Assistant Professor will be establishing her new lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in February 2023.

Dr. Starbird studies mechanisms of activation in a unique sub-family of receptor tyrosine kinases that play a vital role in maintaining cellular homeostasis through the clearance of apoptotic cells and control of inflammatory and immune responses. Using a combination of biochemical, biophysical and structural studies, she asks questions about how these important receptors are activated and uses this information to better understand how their function may be altered in disease states.

She will be building her lab and will be looking for a RA, postdoc, and students to join her lab. Please contact Dr. Chrystal Starbird for lab position inquiries. Her job postings and lab website are coming soon.
