Message from Qi Zhang, Associate Chair for Community and Engagement
As of July 1, I am honored to step into the role of Associate Chair for Community and Engagement for our department. In light of the new university policies, we are also transitioning our former committee into the newly named Committee of Community and Engagement.
Having previously served as an Inclusive Excellence Liaison and chair of our department’s Equity and Inclusion Committee, I am excited to continue our mission of fostering a strong and supportive environment for all members of our department.
The Committee of Community and Engagement will focus on the following four key areas:
1. Professional Success: Supporting career development, mentorship, and opportunities for growth for faculty, staff, students, and trainees.
2. Curriculum and Scholarship: Enhancing our academic programs and research initiatives.
3. Community Outreach: Building connections with the broader community and creating impactful outreach programs.
4. Cultural Engagement: Promoting cultural awareness and strengthening intra- and interdepartmental relationships.
We believe these directions are consistent with our core values and will help us continue to build a vibrant and cohesive department where everyone can thrive.
Additionally, as several committee members are moving into their exciting new career stages, we are seeking dedicated and passionate members to join the committee. If you are interested in contributing to any of these areas, please reach out to me. Your involvement can make a significant impact!
I look forward to working with all of you in this new capacity and continuing our efforts to create a thriving community.
Dr. Qi Zhang, Associate Chair for Community and Engagement
