Dear Carolina Community, Today we write to share with you several updates related to the COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Group 4 Eligibility First, we are pleased that additional members of our community are eligible for the vaccine this week. Governor Cooper announced that beginning March 17, people in Group 4 who have a medical condition that puts them at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19 are eligible for vaccinations. On April 7, the rest of Group 4 will become eligible, including all UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, staff and student employees who are not in Groups 1, 2 or 3. In addition, UNC-Chapel Hill students living in Carolina Housing, in fraternity or sorority housing and in off-campus congregate housing (such as rented houses and apartment complexes) will be eligible on April 7. Please visit the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) website for more information about Group 4, including a list of the medical conditions considered high-risk for eligibility. Remember, Groups 1, 2 and 3 are also currently eligible to receive the vaccine. Group 3 includes UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, staff and students who are working in-person. Finding an appointment We have heard that it can be confusing and frustrating to find a vaccination appointment. The NC DHHS My Spot website lists multiple types of providers around the state, including local health departments and retail pharmacies. Many sites have options to book an appointment online and over the phone. In addition, UNC Health’s Your Shot website allows you to book appointments with any UNC Health vaccine provider. New appointment windows open daily and are based on the supply each provider has received for that week. Student Vaccination Clinic Campus Health is currently setting up a vaccination clinic on campus for our students. The clinic will be in the Student Union in the former Wendy’s restaurant location. While Campus Health has been approved as a provider, NC DHHS has not yet sent us doses of the vaccine. We hope to receive a vaccine allocation soon — and will send more information about the clinic and how eligible students can schedule appointments in the coming days. Employee Vaccination Self Reporting While the University is not requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for students, faculty or staff, it is helpful to know the percentage of the community that is vaccinated. UNC Environment, Health and Safety has set up a website where employees can self-report when they are vaccinated. This is similar to the self-report site we have for the flu vaccinations. We encourage you to fill out the self-report form once you have been vaccinated. We are exploring options for a similar self-report site for students and will provide updates on that as soon as possible. Carolina COVID-19 Vaccination Town Halls Last week we hosted two town halls with UNC Health doctors and faculty experts to answer questions about the vaccines. If you missed them the first time, you can watch the videos on the Carolina Together website. Please get vaccinated when a shot is available to you — and encourage your colleagues to do so as well. If you are in Groups 1, 2, 3, or the first round of Group 4, you can get your vaccination now. Help us stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community and prepare for our Fall 2021 goal: returning to the in-person Carolina experience that makes our campus such a great place to live, learn and work.
