More specifically, I am focused on two main areas of platelet research: 1) the utility of platelet transfusion in various bleeding disorders, and 2) mechanisms regulating platelet lifespan in blood and platelet clearance in organs such as spleen and liver. We utilize mouse models of platelet dysfunction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"directory-profile single \">\n<div class=\"directory-post-content\">\n<p><strong>Research Interests:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Bergmeier research group, my research interests are centered around platelet signaling and function. More specifically, I am focused on two main areas of platelet research: 1) the utility of platelet transfusion in various bleeding disorders, and 2) mechanisms regulating platelet lifespan in blood and platelet clearance in organs such as spleen and liver. We utilize mouse models of platelet dysfunction, and have established state-of-the-art imaging techniques to allow the visualization of platelet adhesion and aggregation at sites of vascular injury in vivo, as well as real-time clearance of platelets in various organs. The UNC Blood Research Center is an outstanding collective of researchers and clinicians, giving us the ability to collaborate and consult with experts in coagulation and disorders of bleeding and thrombosis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My research interests are centered around platelet signaling and function.
