Examples of expenses include attendance at a workshop or conference, computer hardware or software, subscriptions, courses, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The funding comes from proceeds of an endowment from J. Logan Irvin, Chair of the Department from 1957 to 1978. He and his family bequeathed funds to BCBP specifically for graduate student support. A second endowment from Dr. Irvin supports our seminar series. Professor Irvin\u2019s research topics included enzyme kinetics, NMR spectroscopy, and potassium transport.<\/p>\n<p>Please Note:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Students are eligible to begin using the funds as soon as they officially join the program<\/li>\n<li>This funding is per PhD student in total and not per year.<\/li>\n<li>The $1,500 does not have to be spent all at once, but it will come in multiples of $100.<\/li>\n<li>Funding is for all students in the BCBP PhD program regardless of their advisor\u2019s primary appointment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Contact the department\u2019s student services manager to request professional development funds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our department will allocate $1,500 per student in the BCBP PhD program to be used for professional development expenses during the course of their training.
