She also received the 2020 Dean\u2019s Distinguished Dissertation Award in Biological &amp; Life Sciences in addition to the 2020 Horizon Award for her research on \u201cThe Regulation of Tau Pathogenesis in Neurodegeneration.\u201dHanna Trzeciakiewicz was very involved both on campus and in the department. First and foremost, for years Ms. Trzeciakiewicz was a part of WinS (Women in Science) a student organization at UNC. In the department, Hanna was teaching the neurodegenerative disease section of the graduate course &#8220;Biochemistry of Human Diseases&#8221; of which she was the only graduate student who taught the course amongst the other professors. Hanna was also a student representative for the department and also served on the research retreat committee. Hanna was also a mentor to many graduate students and undergraduates in and out of Cohen lab. She served on NSF discussion panels, helped other graduate\/undergraduate students apply for the NSF, and was immensely involved in mentoring two undergraduate research assistants.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after graduation, Hanna will be a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan in the Department of Neurology under the mentorship of Henry Paulson, MD, PhD a part of the Michigan Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Center.Congratulations Dr. Trzeciakiewicz.<\/p>\n<p>Best wishes for a successful career!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hanna Trzeciakiewicz under the direction of Dr. Todd Cohen, successfully defended her dissertation on March 6, 2020 and received her PhD!
