Photo by Jon Gardiner.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/biochem\/directory\/asancar\/\">Aziz Sancar, MD, PhD<\/a>, the Sarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics and member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, published his 400<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0scientific paper this fall in the\u00a0<em>Journal of Biological Chemistry<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jbc.org\/content\/early\/2020\/10\/21\/jbc.AC120.016325\">paper<\/a>, entitled \u201cMycobacteria excises DNA damage in 12- or 13-nucleotide-long oligomers by prokaryotic-type dual incisions and performs transcription-coupled repair,\u201d reveals more intricacies of DNA repair, for which Sancar won the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/biochem\/news\/aziz-sancar-receives-2015-nobel-prize-in-chemistry\/\">2015 Nobel Prize for Chemistry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Co-authors of the paper were long-time\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sancarlab.unc.edu\/\">Sancar lab<\/a> collaborators research instructor Christopher Selby, PhD, and associate professor Laura Lindsey-Boltz, PhD, along with research associate Yanyan Yang, PhD.<\/p>\n<p><em>News courtesy of Mark Derewicz, Director of Research and National News at <a href=\"https:\/\/news.unchealthcare.org\/news-team\/\">UNC Health &amp;
