These faculty members are honored for their work through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ogefacultymentoring.web.unc.edu\/mentoring-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Awards for Excellence in Basic Science Mentoring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The following faculty have been selected as awardees for 2020-2021:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/microimm\/directory\/blossom-a-damania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blossom Damania<\/a>, PhD, Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Microbiology &amp; Immunology,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bio.unc.edu\/faculty-profile\/gladfelter-amy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amy Gladfelter<\/a>, PhD, professor of Biology,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/biochem\/directory\/kuhlman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brian Kuhlman<\/a>, PhD, professor of Biochemistry &amp; Biophysics,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/genetics\/directory\/karen-l-mohlke-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Karen Mohlke<\/a>, PhD, professor of Genetics,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/cellbiophysio\/directory\/natasha-snider-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Natasha Snider<\/a>, PhD, assistant professor of Cell Biology &amp; Physiology, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/cellbiophysio\/directory\/mark-zylka-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Zylka<\/a>, PhD, W.R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Cell Biology &amp; Physiology.<\/p>\n<p>These six awardees were nominated by graduate students, postdocs, or alumni who felt their mentorship creates a supportive environment for trainee growth, clearly articulates expectations, values diversity and belonging, and facilitates trainee career development. Faculty colleagues of the nominees also submit letters of support.<\/p>\n<p>The Awards for Excellence in Basic Science Mentoring exemplify faculty members who demonstrate high integrity and professionalism, show respect for trainees, provide opportunities to network both within the university and within the scientific field of interest to enable trainees to meet their goals, and
