We wish to congratulate our 2017 alumnae Cassandra K. Hayne PhD on earning a K99 through the MOSAIC program! Dr. Hayne is a postdoctoral fellow at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (<\/span>NIEHS) <\/span>in North Carolina. She is studying RNA processing factors linked to rare neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases.<\/p>\n

NIH announced the newest group of K99\/R00 scholars, supported by NIGMS in the
\nMaximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) program on August 20, 2021.<\/p>\n

Dr. Hayne’s project is titled \u201cStructural and functional characterization of pontocerebellar hypoplasia associated nucleases.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI am so humbled and excited to get to be a part of the ASBMB MOSAIC cohort. I am particularly looking forward to building a scientific community and networking with other MOSAIC scholars as well as members of the ASBMB community,\u201d she said. \u201cI look forward to growing through this career transition and as I establish my own position with the help of the professional-development activities provided through the ASBMB program.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) program is part of NIH\u2019s efforts to enhance diversity within the academic biomedical research workforce, and is designed to facilitate the transition of promising postdoctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds, for example individuals from groups\u00a0underrepresented in the biomedical research workforce at the faculty level<\/a>, into independent, tenure-track or equivalent research-intensive faculty positions.<\/p>\n

Cassandra joins a cohort within the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). She and her cohort will receive individualized coaching and networking and presentation opportunities tailored to her individual needs.<\/p>\n

Dr. Suzanne Barbour<\/a> is one of the coaches for the ASBMB cohort, though she is not directly paired with Dr. Hayne.<\/p>\n
