Seminar title: “Exploring the mechanistic basis of nucleosome interactions”
\nPI: Robert McGinty
\nIn this talk, Cathy discussed how we have recently used bulk and single-molecule biophysical and cellular studies to investigate how different interaction interfaces between histone methyltransferase Dot1L and the nucleosome contribute to Dot1L binding and activity in leukemia.<\/p>\n

\"GabbyGabby Gabby Budziszewski<\/h2>\n

Seminar title: “Chromatin kinase VRK1 engages the nucleosome multivalently to phosphorylate histone H3 threonine 3”
\nPI: Rob McGinty
\nIn this talk, Gabby discussed the mechanism by which VRK1 binds the nucleosome: namely, by binding both DNA linker regions as well as the histone disk face. The multivalent nature of this interaction has implications for the kinase’s ability to phosphorylate histone H3 tails, a function that is crucial to the proper segregation of chromosomes during mitosis.<\/p>\n
