Pengda Liu, PhD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Congratulations to Pengda Liu<\/a>, Associate professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics, who received tenure as a UNC faculty effective March 1, 2022. Pengda Liu received his Ph.D. from Dr. John Stiller\u2019s lab at East Carolina University in 2008. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Duke and BIDMC, Harvard Medical School with Drs. Arno Greenleaf and Wenyi Wei, respectively. In 2013, he was promoted to instructor at Harvard Medical School and received an NCI pathway to independence award. In 2016, Dr. Liu joined UNC as an Assistant professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics associated with Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.<\/p>\n

“I would thank all my current and past lab members who have been sweating on bench for testing exciting ideas, my mentors and Lineberger and BCBP leaders for generous supports and guidance, our collaborators across the campus for continuous help, and funding agencies to allow us to enjoy doing science. I am excited to start a new chapter of my professional career with higher standards to serve the research, teaching and service communities.” — Pengda Liu, PhD<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Research in the Liu lab<\/a> focuses on deciphering mechanisms for deregulated cell signaling events in cancer, aiming to identify novel drug targets and develop new cancer therapeutics, using biochemical, biophysical and genetic approaches in both in vitro and in vivo models. At UNC, Dr. Liu was selected as a V Scholar, received junior faculty development award, Joseph Li Travel Award, Atomwise AIMS award, Gabrielle\u2019s Angel Foundation Medical Research Award, Department of Defense Kidney Cancer Research Program Idea Development Award and Jefferson-Pilot Fellowship in Academic Medicine. Dr. Liu has also received funding from the National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, Avantor Sciences Foundation, Breast Cancer Alliance, ATCC, Sapphire North America and NC TraCS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
