Zoe Greene \u2013 Research Technician<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Campbell lab research<\/h2>\n

The Campbell Lab<\/a> is divided into two \u201cteams\u201d: Vinculin and RAS. They have two grants which fund the research of two separate proteins both linked to human disease patterns. I am involved in studying Vinculin and its splice isoform Metavinculin. The protein is small and dynamic playing a huge role in cell functioning.<\/p>\n

When did you join Campbell lab?<\/h2>\n

I joined the lab in July 2019.<\/p>\n

What is it like being part of a team?<\/h2>\n

The environment we have fostered is one of support and collaboration. It has been a great learning experience. A team-based approach yields results and gets people thinking in ways far beyond what a single person can accomplish. My work supports the team dynamics and allows the lab to run smoothly and safely.<\/p>\n

What is your typical day like in the lab?<\/h2>\n

A typical day starts with checking for packages, putting away clean dishes, and responding to emails. I execute my own research project under the guidance of Sharon Campbell and Ashhar Khan. I typically run experiments or processes data while balancing the lab ordering and EHS standards in the lab.<\/p>\n

Educational background<\/h2>\n

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2019.<\/p>\n

\"Zoe<\/h2>\n

What part of North Carolina are you from?<\/h2>\n

I grew up in Eastern North Carolina. I have six brothers and sisters.<\/p>\n

Fun facts<\/h2>\n

I also work at REI, an outdoor retail store, coach women\u2019s rugby club for UNC, and volunteer with the Red Cross. In my spare time, I like to hike in the Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area and bake.<\/p>\n

Do you have pets?<\/h2>\n

I have two family dogs Stella and Sophie.<\/p>\n

Future plans<\/h2>\n

I plan to start medical school in the Fall of 2022.<\/p>\n

I am also planning a trip to the Mighty Five<\/a> out West: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches National Park. My goal is to successfully hike Angels Landing Trail.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
