Odessa is a fifth-year Biochemistry and Biophysics PhD candidate in the Kuhlman lab. She is one of many researchers highlighted in a series of videos targeted at high school students to learn more about research in a variety of disciplines. In the video, Odessa walked viewers through the process of designing a protein using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosettacommons.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">Rosetta<\/a>\u00a0to the expression of the designer proteins in the laboratory.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mikayla Feldbauer, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/biophysics.unc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">Molecular and Cellular Biophysics<\/a>\u00a0trainee in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bcb.unc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\">Bioinformatics and Computational Biology<\/a>\u00a0department, is another graduate student interested in improving the accessibility of structural biology. Mikayla recently highlighted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fold.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"3\">FoldIt<\/a>\u00a0in her Pipettepen article,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thepipettepen.com\/heres-how-you-can-get-involved-in-scientific-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"4\">Here\u2019s how you can get involved in scientific research<\/a>!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>Foldit is a game that allows players to move around amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, to satisfy certain criteria and make a design that would be stable if made in a lab.
