Paul on his promotion to Research Assistant Professor on May 11, 2022.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>Dr. Paul joined the lab of Dr. Wolfgang Bergmeier as a research associate in 2012. He received his Ph.D. in Nutrition\/Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where his dissertation work focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of arsenic-induced diabetes.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>As part of the Bergmeier research group, David Paul&#8217;s research interests are centered around various aspects of platelet signaling and function. \u00a0More specifically, he is focused on two main areas of platelet research: 1) Characterizing<span style=\"font-weight: inherit\">\u00a0modulators of the small GTPase, Rap1, which largely governs how platelets respond to pathophysiological challenges, and \u00a02) Establishing and validating novel mouse models for the evaluation of platelet function in the context of hemostasis (bleeding) and thrombosis (stroke).\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Bergmeier lab utilizes mouse models of platelet dysfunction and established state-of-the-art imaging techniques to allow the visualization of platelet adhesion and aggregation at sites of vascular injury in vivo, as well as real-time clearance of platelets in various organs. Dr. Paul is also a member of the UNC Blood Research Center (BRC).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to Dr. David S.
