2022-23 Award for Excellence in Basic Science Mentoring\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

\"SharonPresented by the Office of Graduate Education\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharon Campbell, PhD\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

As part of the nomination process, letters of support were provided by trainees, alums, and faculty. The Office of Graduate Education compiled these quotes from the nomination letters that theye felt stood out the most.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u201cSharon is an exemplary mentor and role model for the trainees in her laboratory and throughout [the] department\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSharon epitomizes to me what it will look like to be successful at UNC\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe recognizes that her students and postdocs are the \u201cface\u201d of her lab and she encourages them to participate in opportunities that will highlight their contributions to research and the UNC community.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been obvious to me how much Sharon\u2019s commitment to establishing a positive environment and sense of belonging within her group has influenced her trainees and their collective spirit. This positive environment has a direct correlation to the success of her trainees past and present.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe inspires, motivates, encourages, and guides students in pursuing their passions and reaching their full potential and scientific goals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have witnessed and experienced firsthand her gift for creating a positive, dynamic, inclusive, and supportive environment in which we feel confident to be ourselves, explore new fields, and take risks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite her busy schedule, she has an open door policy and always makes time for her students to share their expertise and experiences and provide feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lab she fosters has been a second home for me and I\u2019m grateful that I get to show up every day to work with these people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
