What projects are you currently working on?<\/strong><\/p>\n My currently research focuses on understanding drug resistance mechanisms in breast cancer cells, particularly regarding the escape of cells from cell cycle inhibition. Using imaging techniques, including live cell and fixed cell imaging, I aim to study the cell cycle dynamics of these escaping cells at a single-cell level. By unraveling these mechanisms, I hope to contribute to our understanding of drug resistance in breast cancer and potentially improve treatment strategies.<\/p>\n I obtained my PhD in Pharmacology from Zhejiang University in China in 2018. During my doctoral studies, I focused on investigating the regulation of the Hippo signaling pathway in both cancer and normal tissues. Specifically, I conducted research on identifying the SUMOylation sites of LATS1 and elucidating the role of SUMOylation in modulating the function of LATS1 within and beyond the Hippo pathway.<\/p>\n My PhD training enhanced my expertise in cell biology research and fueled my interest in understanding cellular growth control. As a result, I joined the Cook lab after graduation to continue exploring this research area.<\/p>\n Curiosity drives me on a fascinating journey of exploration and the pursuit of answers to intriguing questions. In research, I find the continuous cycle of questioning and seeking new answers truly interesting. With each dive into a specific question, I unravel layers of “whys,” unearthing complexities and gaining fresh knowledge. The continuous process of discovering problems and solving them is not only fascinating but also immensely fulfilling.<\/p>\n What sets research apart from other jobs is the ever-changing nature of challenges and difficulties. Each problem encountered is unique, providing valuable opportunities for learning, problem-solving, and gaining insights into the subject matter. The allure of research lies in its dynamic nature, with fresh challenges that keep the process engaging and exciting.<\/p>\n What have been some of your best experiences with BCBP?<\/b><\/p>\n My best experience within our department stems from the exceptional environment it provides, catering to both academic excellence and personal growth. The department’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community is commendable. Moreover, the department prioritizes continuous learning and development. It offers an abundance of trainings and seminars that serve as platforms for scientific communication, facilitating valuable exchanges of knowledge. These initiatives empower individuals to enhance their skills, broaden their perspectives, and engage in thought-provoking discussions. I am truly grateful for the department’s dedication to creating such a remarkable environment.<\/p>\n Do you have any advice for current or future trainees at BCBP?<\/strong> Being optimistic is crucial when conducting research. Throughout the process, you will undoubtedly encounter various problems and hurdles, from experimental setbacks to theoretical complexities. So, when encountering problems during your research journey, embrace them fearlessly, remain optimistic, and believe in your ability to find innovative solutions.<\/p>\n What are your favorite activities outside of the lab?<\/strong><\/p>\n I love cooking\u2014it’s my ultimate relaxation method. It’s a creative outlet where I can prepare delicious meals and find joy in the process. Taking walks in nature is also one of my hobbies.
