\"TatyanaA new publication from the Brown lab highlights the thesis work of recent BCBP graduate Tanya Bodrug. In a project co-mentored by Nick Brown and David Haselbach at the IMP in Vienna, Austria, a novel method was developed for visualizing the Anaphase-promoting Complex\/Cyclosome (APC\/C), an E3 ubiquitin ligase that regulates the cell cycle. Their approach combined time-resolved cryo-EM with a deep-learning based analysis that visualizes the dynamics of molecular complexes developed by Ellen Zhong at Princeton. By combining their structural analysis with single-particle fluorescence microscopy, they characterized new aspects of APC\/C function.<\/p>\n

This highly collaborative effort involved contributions from teams at UNC, including the Hahn and Emanuele Labs, as well as efforts from the labs of Joe Harrison (UNC and Kuhlman lab alumni) and Josh Steimel at University of the Pacific and Wei Zhang at University of Guelph.<\/p>\n
