Congratulations\u00a0to\u00a0Dillon\u00a0Sloan<\/span>, graduate student in the Baker lab, who\u00a0was awarded a fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to work at the University of Tokyo this summer. He will conduct research in the lab of Dr. Masahide Kikkawa at the University of Tokyo.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"<\/p>\n

Dillon\u00a0Sloan shares his excitement:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve designed a set of cryo-electron tomography experiments that, Lord willing, will yield some meaningful data during the summer.<\/p>\n

My project took an unexpected turn toward ciliary biology sometime late last year, and as such, we\u2019ve been working hard to gain expertise in this field.\u00a0 Dr. Kikkawa\u2019s lab is very fitting for this project, using Cryo-EM techniques that are familiar to us, while also specializing in the biological context we are interested in for this project.<\/p>\n

I would not have thought I would be able to take advantage of an opportunity like this.\u00a0 Rick Baker has been one of the best PI\u2019s I have known for prioritizing people in his lab and being encouraging.\u00a0 I’m sure he knew I was considering an international post-doc after I graduate, which prompted him to tell me about this opportunity.\u00a0 We were thrilled when my application was accepted.\u201d<\/p>\n

The JSPS fellowship will last about 10 weeks during the summer of 2024.<\/p>\n
