Since then, it has grown significantly, developing new cryoEM technologies and serving a large user base across diverse fields in the life sciences. The core&#8217;s comprehensive services begin with project planning and extend through high-resolution data collection and processing for key modalities like single-particle cryoEM, cryo-electron tomography, and cryoTEM of nanoparticles.<\/div>\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The core&#8217;s successful pipeline has been used to determine over 100 high-resolution structures of various macromolecular complexes, including soluble and membrane proteins. The core also offers advanced methods for sample preparation that aid in the recovery of low-abundant and fragile macromolecular assemblies. The core maintains a strong commitment to education, providing workshops and structured training with required assessments for independent use of the CryoTEM and Vitrobot. Furthermore, the facility is active in method development to provide customers with access to new research tools.<\/div>\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Highlights &#8211; by the numbers<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/cryo-em\/publications\/\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nine publications*<\/span><\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Three students completed Vitrobot certification<\/span><\/li>\n<li>3 Students were taught how to make lipid-affinity grids.<\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One student completed our cryoTEM microscope certification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">NIH S10\u00a0HEI\u00a0Grant<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Method paper on affinity grids<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Number of grids imaged 1170<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Number of Vitrobot sessions 154 <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New equipment\u00a0VitrobotMark4+ cryo-plunger <\/span><em>(a separate news article will be written in 2026)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Over 110 maps deposited in the EMDB since 2019<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\">\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">New developments we are looking foward to for 2026<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-editing-info=\"{&quot;applyListStyleFromLevel&quot;:false,&quot;orderedStyleType&quot;:2}\">\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">New lab space for advanced specimen preparation and fabrication of specialized TEM grids.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">CryoEM BootCamp 1-week workshop tentatively February of 2026.
