Since joining the Biochemistry and Biophysics program at UNC, Maria has been a tireless advocate for peers and a driving force in building an inclusive, supportive community. Maria has served as Social Chair, Graduate Education Committee representative, Lead Peer Mentor, JEDI Fellow and Advisor, and GPSG Senator, while also mentoring numerous first-year and summer research students. Through work as Lead Peer Mentor and contributions as a JEDI Fellow and Advisor, Maria has championed initiatives that make graduate education more inclusive, and guidance to first-year and summer research students reflects a passion for helping others succeed. An example of leadership was Maria&#8217;s role in organizing the BCBP Annual Research Retreat, working diligently to bring students and faculty together, foster collaboration, and create a welcoming environment that strengthened departmental connections. Maria&#8217;s leadership, generosity, and dedication have left a lasting mark on the community.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"simple-translate\" class=\"simple-translate-system-theme\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"simple-translate-button isShow\" style=\"height: 22px;width: 22px;top: 114px;left: 175px\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"simple-translate-panel \" style=\"width: 300px;height: 200px;top: 0px;left:
