For two decades, Aziz has pioneered the use of in vitro biochemical approaches to identify the numerous components of DNA repair and their precise contributions to the process. In recent years, he has also made fundamental discoveries in the molecular circuitry of circadian rhythm. In 2001, Aziz was given the North Carolina Distinguished Chemist Award from the American Chemical Society.
