The Jefferson-Pilot Fellowship program aims to retain promising junior faculty in the School of Medicine, and offer them greater freedom to explore new ideas, new ways of teaching students, treating patients, or investigating biological problems. Dr. Cook will receive $20,000 over the next four years to use at her discretion in support of her scholarly endeavors.<\/p>\n<p>Cook\u2019s research is focused on understanding how the DNA synthesis machinery is assembled at origins of DNA replication in mammalian cells. Eventually, this will allow for an understanding of how assembly of replication complexes is regulated by normal and aberrant cell signaling. This work has clear ramifications for the understanding and treatment of cancer and other cell proliferative diseases.
