Dr. Bergmeier began his independent research career at Thomas Jefferson University where he continued his work with <i>in vivo<\/i> mouse thrombosis models and defined the role of a new calcium regulated exchange factor CalDAG GEF-1. This important exchange factor is a key regulator or RAP1 signaling and integrin activation in platelets. Dr. Bergmeier joined UNC in the summer of 2011 and his expertise in platelets, signal transduction, and <i>in vivo<\/i> thrombosis models has brought a new dimension of cutting edge molecular and translational research to campus. He was recently honored for his research accomplishments in his field with a Biennial Awards for Contributions to Hemostasis (BACH) Investigator Recognition Award from the <a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/isth.org\" target=\"_blank\">International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \"><a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.isth.org\/?BACH\" target=\"_blank\">Biennial Awards for Contributions to Hemostasis (BACH)<\/a> are given to individuals who, in the opinion of their peers, have made significant contributions to research and education in blood coagulation. The Investigator Recognition awards are given typically to individuals whose accomplishments are internationally regarded as exemplary models of research and teaching excellence. Dr. Bergmeier was the recipient of the 16th Biennial BACH Investigator Recognition Award and presented with his plaque at the 59th Annual ISTH Society Meeting held in Amsterdam during June 29-July4,
