The title of his dissertation is <\/span><em>\u201cStructure-function determinants of activation of the epithelial sodium channel.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); \"\/><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); \">Mahmoud did his undergraduate work at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After studying physics, his graduate research focused on <\/span>combining computational and experimental techniques to construct a quaternary structure of the epithelial sodium channel. The uncovered structure-function relationships help us understand the biophysical principles of epithelial sodium absorption, and how that can be altered by disease-linked mutations.<\/p>\n<p><span>Mahmoud received the <a title=\"\" href=\"\/biochem\/news\/mahmoud-shobair-receives-2016-dissertation-award\" class=\"external-link\" target=\"_self\">dissertation completion fellowship from the graduate school.<\/a> He is pursuing a career in mental health research.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><!-- description -->
