Annually, they open nominations for their \u201cHealthcare Heroes\u201d awards that are given to local scientists, doctors, nurses, volunteers and administrators for their contributions to well being of the community. This year, Dr. Sancar received the top honor in Lifetime Achievement for his contributions to the prevention and treatment of cancer. TBJ will host the award reception on March 17 at the Rickhouse in Durham \u2013 registration to attend is open to the public: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/triangle\/event\/141322\">2016 Health Care Heroes Awards Reception.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sancar is also the recent recipient of a 2016 ASBMB Vallee award for biomedical sciences and a recipient of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/triangle\/news\/2016\/02\/15\/tbjs-2016-health-care-heroes-winners-revealed.html\" target=\"_self\"
