The awards are highly competitive and are usually funded for five years. Dr. Rothbart is currently a postdoctoral fellow training in the lab of Dr. Brian Strahl, associate professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Dr. Rothbart\u2019s research efforts focus on the regulation of chromatin-templated biological processes by the \u2018histone code\u2019. Particularly, he is interested in the biochemistry and biology of a chromatin-interacting protein, UHRF1, as a bridging molecule at the interface of histone post-translational modifications and DNA methylation. With this K99 award, Dr. Rothbart will extend his studies on \u201cMechanisms Regulating DNA Methylation Maintenance in Chromatin.\u201d Funding for the award begins in February 2014 and will support his transition from a mentored research environment in the Strahl lab to establishing his own independent laboratory.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><!-- description -->
