North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center

The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center conducts ongoing research into the best ways to treat burn survivors and assist their recovery. In addition, the Burn Center also works to develop best practices to prevent catastrophic burn events and triage patients when such events do occur.

The Burn Center is committed to conducting ongoing clinical studies through the Burn Clinical Research Group to expand our knowledge of the ways in which the body heals from burn injuries. The group is currently conducting a number of clinical trials, many of which are studies for newer medications and treatments. There are also studies that do not involve medications, but rather involve using samples of blood and other specimens collected with the permission of patients when routine tests or procedures are done to help doctors and researchers learn more about various diseases and/or about our patient population in general.

Study coordinators may ask patients to participate in research when they come to the hospital with a burn injury or when they are in clinic. The research group works closely with clinical care teams (doctors, nurses and coordinators) to make research experiences worthwhile. The Burn Center depends on research to continue cutting-edge treatment, and without patients’ contributions it would not be possible.
