It includes information that can be distilled by service line (for those that participate in time-outs).<\/p>\n<p>To access this resource, login to UNC Health MyApps. Double-click the Tableau icon. In the search field, type \u2018antibiotic time outs\u2019. If the dashboard doesn\u2019t appear, make an<a href=\"https:\/\/iam.unch.unc.edu\/CoreARMS\/CoreARMS\/home\"> ARC request<\/a> for \u201cUNCMC Hospitals Epidemiology\u201d. Time<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">outs typically take place two to three days following the start of antimicrobial treatment. A <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">time<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">out provides a structured \u201cpause\u201d: the healthcare<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">provider takes new information into account<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2013<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">such as <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">results from blood or urine cultures and how the patient<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">responds<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to the drug<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8212;<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and decides if adjustments are <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">needed to the drug, dose, duration, or<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">route<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">. For example, drugs can be selected to more pre<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cisely target the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">organism identified in a culture, discontinued if the patient is not found to have an illness that will respond to<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> antimicrobials after all, or changed from<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">IV to oral<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">route<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">. Sometimes, a time<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">out confirms that no change is <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">needed.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid5\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page3R_mcid5\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Time<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">outs are<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">useful<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to ensure patients receive optimal a<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ntimicrobial treatment and help<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reduce unnecessary, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">redundant, or longer<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">than<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">needed antimicrobial use.
