Only providers can use this order at this time, and the nurse-driven protocol for <em>C. difficile<\/em> testing will be retired.<\/p>\n<p>If your patient does not meet\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.idsociety.org\/practice-guideline\/clostridium-difficile\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.idsociety.org\/practice-guideline\/clostridium-difficile\/\">IDSA\/SHEA criteria<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0<em>C. difficile<\/em>\u00a0testing according to the documentation in the patient\u2019s chart on laxatives and previous tests, you will be prompted to remove the order. If the ordering provider believes that the patient has an exceptional reason to proceed with testing, they will be directed to seek approval from the Carolina Antimicrobial Stewardship Program via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mydirectory.unch.unc.edu\/miTeamWeb\/OnCall\/Schedule?subId=31&amp;scheduleId=667\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/mydirectory.unch.unc.edu\/miTeamWeb\/OnCall\/Schedule?subId=31&amp;scheduleId=667\">myUNC Health Directory<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uncmedicalcenter.intranet.unchealthcare.org\/PublishingImages\/Pages\/2022\/05-May\/C-Difficile\/C%20diff%20order%20revision%20May%202022.pptx\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/uncmedicalcenter.intranet.unchealthcare.org\/PublishingImages\/Pages\/2022\/05-May\/C-Difficile\/C%20diff%20order%20revision%20May%202022.pptx\">You can view slides showing the new Epic@UNC ordering views<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Testing for\u00a0<em>C. difficile<\/em>\u00a0when not indicated can harm patients. Some patients are colonized with\u00a0<em>C. difficile<\/em>\u00a0but do not have active infections.
