Our current research centers on myosin-X, (Myo10) an unconventional myosin that induces filopodia, undergoes an intriguing form of movement within filopodia known as intrafilopodial motility, and localizes to filopodial tips. Growing evidence demonstrates that Myo10 is a key protein for cancer invasion in major forms of cancer including breast, lung, and melanoma. Our recent work generating Myo10 knockout mice has revealed that Myo10 has important roles in the development of brain, blood vessels, and pigmentation, but is not essential in adults, making Myo10 an attractive anti-cancer target.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cheney lab\u2019s research focuses on the fundamental cell biology of molecular motors and the finger-like cellular protrusions known as filopodia.
