Folami Ideraabdullah, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Genetics and Nutrition in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health at the University of North Carolina (UNC). She earned her PhD in comparative mouse genetics at UNC and postdoctoral training in epigenetics and genomic imprinting at the University of Pennsylvania. Her current work examines how environmental modulation of the epigenome during development affects offspring chronic and\/or heritable disease. A key focus is to identify genetic differences that determine extent, timing and stability of such epimutations. Long-term, this work will elucidate the role of the epigenome in chronic\/heritable disease and identify individuals predisposed to such outcomes. Current projects investigate vitamin D & folate deficiency, pesticide exposure, and hyperglycemia.<\/p>\n
