Peter Mohler earned his doctorate in cell and molecular physiology, the predecessor of the cell biology and physiology department and curriculum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000. For his graduate work, he characterized apical targeting mechanisms in polarized epithelial cells under the mentorship of Sharon Milgram.<\/span><\/p>\n

He completed his postdoctoral training at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Duke University Medical Center. He then became an assistant professor in pathology at Vanderbilt University and later a distinguished associate professor of cardiovascular medicine as well as an associate professor of internal medicine and molecular physiology and biophysics at the University of Iowa. In 2017, he joined The Ohio State University College of Medicine. In his most recent role, he <\/span>served<\/span> as the executive vice president for research innovation and knowledge at The Ohio State University. He became the 30th president of the University of Alabama on July 21, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n
