June 15, 2011<\/i> \u2013 The department welcomes Jim Dunleavey,<\/b> who completed his first year in the BBSP and has joined the Physiology graduate program and the lab of Andrew Dudley<\/a>. Jim is originally from Gouldsboro, Maine (near Jackson Labs) and was a dual Biology and History major at The College of William and Mary in Virginia.<\/p>\n

Jim explains his decision to join Physiology and the Dudley lab: \u201cI\u2019ve always had something of a general interest in human health coupled to molecular mechanisms, which the Physiology Department seems to have a pretty strong grip on here at UNC, and I found myself interested in blood vessels\/angiogenesis. When I was looking for my third rotation I saw that Drew coupled an interesting developmental process, angiogenesis, with a prevalent human disease, melanoma, and thought that it could be an interesting matchup. Coupled with Drew\u2019s energy for his science, and a good fit I found working here in my rotation, I decided that his lab and Physiology would be a pretty interesting place to pursue my Ph.D.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
