Trainees are required to have a secondary faculty mentor whose vascular biology research differs from that of student\u2019s primary mentor, to facilitate collaboration and expose the student to diverse approaches in the study of vascular disease. These secondary mentors may be clinical faculty and individuals at UNC, or at other universities or institutes who maintain active laboratories relevant to the student\u2019s area of research.<\/p>\n<p>Additional training and collaboration opportunities include group meetings, vascular biology seminars, and the annual Vascular Biology Research Forum.<\/p>\n<p>Trainees are selected among graduate students from multiple departments and curricula at UNC-Chapel Hill during the spring semester of their first or second year. The training grant provides funding support for up to three years, upon review of the student\u2019s research progress and program participation.<\/p>\n<p>Jim Dunleavey is in his third year of graduate study and joined the lab of <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"\/cellbiophysio\/faculty-old\/dudley\">Drew Dudley<\/a>.
