The article was rated \u201cexceptional\u201d and <a href=\"http:\/\/f1000biology.com\/article\/id\/3765959\/evaluation\">evaluated by Stephen Schwartz<\/a> who wrote, \u201cThis may well be the seminal paper in one of the most important mysteries in vascular biology: the mechanisms controlling collateral formation in the arterial tree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.f1000biology.com\">Faculty of 1000 Biology<\/a> is an award-winning online service that highlights and evaluates the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of over 2000 of the world\u2019s top researchers. It was launched in January 2002 and already over 90% of the world\u2019s top institutions subscribe (e.g. NIH*, Johns Hopkins and all Max Planck Institutes).
