Carolina experts are leveraging 40 years of HIV research to find a treatment for COVID-19.
The Well recently published an article detailing UNC’s expertise in the field of HIV research and how this has influenced the research response to COVID-19. CFAR Associate Director Dr. Myron Cohen notes, “HIV has taught us how to approach problems . . . It took us literally 20 years to understand the rules of transmission and to become good at some of the things we’re trying to do. For COVID-19, it’s taken us 20 weeks to get to at least some of the same points.
This isn’t just a story about HIV. It’s a story about people working together successfully.” The story also features CFAR leaders Drs. Swanstrom, Eron, Margolis, Garcia, Wohl, Kashuba, and Adimora.
