Dr. Nancie Archin is an Associate Professor in the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases and the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research is focused on characterizing the HIV reservoir, understanding sex and other factors that contribute HIV persistence, particularly in women, and developing strategies to eliminate persistent HIV infection. Dr. Archin has an extensive record of contributions to HIV cure research, including seminal studies characterizing the HIV reservoir within T-cell subsets, elucidating fundamental mechanisms of HIV latency, and demonstrating for the first time that latent HIV can be disrupted in vivo. She has also led translational investigations evaluating novel latency-reversing agents in combination with immunotherapeutic approaches to promote clearance of persistent infection. Her laboratory possesses extensive expertise in quantifying replication-competent HIV in clinical and tissue specimens from individuals with long-term viral suppression, as well as in measuring HIV-related and other protein biomarkers using ultra-sensitive technologies such as the Single Molecule Array (SIMOA) platform.
