Dr. Jeffrey Stringer, Clarke-Pearson Distinguished Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UNC-Chapel Hill<\/span> and CFAR member<\/span>, has received the prestigious 2025 Oliver Max Gardner Award\u2014the highest faculty honor in the UNC System\u2014for his global leadership in maternal health and innovation in low-resource settings.<\/span> Since joining UNC in 2012, Dr. Stringer has led the School of Medicine\u2019s Division of Global Women\u2019s Health and serves as associate director for research at the UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases. He has secured over $120 million in funding for maternal health research and co-founded the nation\u2019s first global women\u2019s health fellowship program.<\/span> Dr. Stringer\u2019s latest breakthroug<\/span>h has been <\/span>a portable, AI-enhanced prenatal ultrasound device<\/span>. <\/span>This device <\/span>pr<\/span>ovides critical diagnostics in underserved areas worldwide, with support from the Gates Foundation and Helmsley Charitable Trust. This innovation is already improving care across Africa and Asia, with plans for deployment in rural North Carolina<\/span>. <\/span>A prolific researcher with <\/span>nea<\/span>rly 300<\/span> pu<\/span>blications, Dr. Stringer\u2019s contributions to maternal HIV care and public health in Zambia have <\/span>imp<\/span>acted<\/span> mi<\/span>llions.
