\"\"The Leadership of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAD) recently published a comment in the Nature\u00a0<\/em>titled: “The new vision from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).” In the article, NIAID leadership introduced two new strategic aims: (1) Support research to address important challenges in infectious diseases that affect Americans and (2) Support research addressing key problems in immunology and allergic and autoimmune disorders affecting Americans.<\/p>\n

The first aim includes expanding research to understand how to effectively implement tools (i.e., preventative methods, long-acting injectable ART and PrEP, etc.) to end the HIV epidemic. NIAID will also focus on improving outcomes related to acute and chronic infections, addressing antimicrobial resistance, and increasing access to therapies and treatment to achieve this goal. The second aim encompasses supporting research to address chronic diseases, understanding long-term post-infectious and non-infectious inflammatory syndrome, and identifying causes of allergies and autoimmune diseases to reduce prevalence and incidence.<\/p>\n
