She is a cancer epidemiologist interested in modifiable risk factors in underserved populations, with a focus on the association of infection and cancers. She has been PI of five grants from the NCI seeking to further our understanding of the diversity of the bacteria\u00a0Helicobacter pylori, and host response to infection, and the association with gastrointestinal cancers. She is also involved in local initiatives to understand the prevalence of\u00a0H. pylori\u00a0in the community and to explore the opportunities for precision prevention of gastric cancer through
