Krist Perreira, PhD and Tonia Poteat, PhD, MPH, PA-C, have received an R01 from the National, Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) titled, Cardiovascular Health of Sexual and Gender Minorities in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (SGM HCHS/SOL).

Krista Perreira, PhD, Professor, Department of Social Medicine and Tonia Poteat, PhD, MPH, PA-C, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Medicine, CHER Faculty, will receive an award for an R01 project grant to examine relationships between sexual/gender minority stress, coping, social support, and heart disease among Hispanics/Latinos in the US.

Perrieira and Poteat will examine these factors to inform development of culturally-appropriate interventions to address psychosocial factors that may contribute to cardiovascular health disparities by sexual orientation and gender identity. The project advances NHLBI’s Strategic Objective to investigate factors that account for differences in health among populations.
