Data Science Day Short Talk by Nader Mehri
September 26, 2024 @ 9:15 am - 9:30 am
Data Science Day 2024, hosted by the School of Data Science and Society, will spotlight data science expertise across campus.
Nader Mehri, a statistician with Abacus Evaluation, will be leading a Short Talk: “Collaboration with community-based organizations increases the distributed COVID-19 tests.” This Short Talk will highlight how integrating spatial data with other data can offer new insights for community engaged program implementation.
The Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics-Underserved Populations (RADx-UP) program launched to improve access to COVID-19 diagnostics among underserved populations disproportionately affected by the pandemic. We used spatial data science to augment evaluation of community collaboration on the number of COVID-19 tests provided across 80+ projects. We developed bivariate maps in Rstudio shiny app to illustrate patterns in tests provided for project areas with varying levels of social vulnerability. Results show community partner supported testing site access was associated with a higher number of COVID-19 tests in vulnerable areas when compared to the projects that did not specify such community collaborations.
