Why Funding Young Researchers Matters

Early career physician-scientists play a crucial role in medical discovery, yet securing funding is one of their biggest challenges. Without adequate support, promising research is delayed or abandoned. By investing in the next generation of pediatric researchers, we ensure that life-changing treatments continue to be developed at UNC and beyond.

The Urgent Need for Funding

Despite the passage of the Pediatric Research Equity Act (PREA), pediatric research still makes up only a fraction of annual medical research funding. This lack of investment leaves critical gaps in knowledge and treatment options for children. A partnership with the UNC Children’s Research Institute will drive advancements in data science, technology, and healthcare expertise—leading to better treatment outcomes for children.
