Have you considered using these methods in your research but wondered how to get started?  \nThe UNC School of Nursing Biobehavioral Laboratory will present a training program on observational and physiologic research methods and their integration on Monday\, August 7th followed by an overview of salivary bioscience on Tuesday\, August 8th.For those interested in mentored in-laboratory training in collecting and analyzing their own salivary cortisol samples\, a Hands-on Salivary Assay Lab in our Salimetrics Center of Excellence designated lab (limited to 4 participants; 2:1 student/instructor ratio) will be offered on Wednesday\, August 9th. This lab is a full day experience.

SUMMARY:Genomics Seminar
DESCRIPTION:The High Throughput Sequencing Facility and the Department of Genetics present a genomics seminar with Bionano: \nThe majority of many complex genomes are made up of repetitive and regulatory elements. Short read sequencing or exome sequence strategies\, while very powerful\, are unable to map these highly repetitive sequences. As a result\, critical information about the genome may be missed when analysis relies on NGS technologies alone. \nBionano Genomics’ platform for whole genome mapping allows for extremely long read data\, resulting in unmatched sensitivity and specificity to detect large structural variation. Our de novo maps can resolve complex repetitive regions\, identify Copy Number Variations\, and elucidate genome-wide large structural variation like balanced/unbalanced translocations\, inversions\, and large indels. \nSpecific examples will be presented of how Bionano’s platform is helping provide a molecular diagnosis for patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy\, identify potential causative variants for patients with undiagnosed genetic disorders\, and how it has been applied to discover large\, potentially oncogenic genomic rearrangements in prostate cancer and leukemia that were missed by NGS.  \nSpeaker: Sven Bockland\, PhD\,  Sr. Application Specialist\, Bionano \nLunch provided with RSVP

Berger \nSeminar Summaries:  \ngenoTYPER-NEXT \nTraditional screening methods for on/off target effects from genome editing experiments may be time consuming\, ineffective\, and/or expensive.  GENEWIZ has developed a method to alleviate all of these pain points\, termed genoTYPER-NEXT.  This proprietary method includes interactive data exploration to promote in-depth\, scalable\, clone analysis. \n Metagenomics  \nShotgun genome sequencing\, coupled with GENEWIZ’s proprietary bioinformatics pipeline\, allows researchers to visualize and interact with their data for species identification and functional significance.
