SUMMARY:Mass Spectrometry Seminar Series
DESCRIPTION:Please join the UNC Metabolomics and Proteomics Core for a lunch and learn presented by Seer‘s Senior Field Applications Scientist\, Dr. Pierre Mbarushimana. Seer is a biotech company dedicated to transforming proteomics through innovative nanoparticle technology. By enabling the comprehensive and unbiased analysis of proteins across a wide dynamic range\, Seer’s platform empowers researchers to uncover novel biomarkers\, accelerate drug discovery\, and advance precision medicine.\n\nLunch will be provided but spots are limited\, so please RSVP here to attend.\n\nDetails:\nWhen? Wednesday April 23\, 2025; 12-1PM\nWhere? 2004 Marsico Hall (and virtually)\nWhat’s it about? Attending the Seer seminar will provide you with insights into an advanced nanoparticle technology that enables researchers to enrich both low- and high-abundance proteins across various sample types. By coupling Seer’s automated nanoparticle enrichment platform with mass spectrometry\, researchers can measure and quantify thousands of proteins that were previously undetectable.  Additionally\, we will present research and clinical studies that have leveraged this technology to identify novel biomarkers and drug targets.

SUMMARY:BRIC Small Animal Imaging Facility Imaging Seminar: TriTom – a multimodal platform for in vivo 3D imaging of small animals
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time: Thursday\, September 26th\, 1:00 -2:00 PM\, followed by online demo and Q&A 2:00-3:00 PM\nLocation: Marsico Hall\, Room 2004 \nTitle: TriTom – a multimodal platform for in vivo 3D imaging of small animals\nSpeaker: Dr. Sergey Ermilov\, PhotoSound\, Inc. \n\nAbstract: \n The TriTom platform is designed for in vivo molecular\, physiological\, and anatomical imaging of preclinical murine models. It employs co-registered photoacoustic and fluorescence imaging channels enabling high-fidelity visualization of regions that either absorb light or fluoresce at imaging depths up to 20-40 mm. A typical 36-sec long TriTom 3D scan interrogates a large volume of tissue (> 25 cm3) producing molecular maps accurately registered to 3D anatomy (high-resolution blood circulatory system\, internal organs\, and skin). TriTom visualizes oxyhemoglobin\, deoxyhemoglobin\, and melanin without a need to use contrast agents\, enabling spatially-resolved longitudinal assessment of vascular morphology and density\, blood oxygenation\, ischemia\, tumor growth and metastasis. TriTom also provides quantitative in vivo imaging for a wide range of nanoparticles and molecular probes that absorb light in 460 nm – 1320 nm spectral range\, and for fluorescent molecular probes with excitation between 460 nm and 800 nm\, enabling applications in toxicology and targeted molecular imaging. With powerful and unique in vivo imaging capabilities\, TriTom presents new ways to study live small animal models in a number of preclinical applications including cancer\, toxicology\, tissue engineering and regeneration\, developmental biology\, neuroscience\, as well as in the development of drugs\, therapies\, optical and fluorescent molecular probes. \n\nMore information: https://www.med.unc.edu/bric/small-animal-imaging/small-animal-imaging-seminar/ \n\nYou are welcome to forward the email to anyone who might be interested. \n(Coffee and snacks will be served)

SUMMARY:CFAC Voucher Program Applications DUE
DESCRIPTION:ORT and CFAC are excited to announce that we will once again hold a SOM Core Facility Voucher Program and ask that you forward this information to your customer e-mail lists and send to your department for distribution on departmental list servs.\n\nThe voucher program is intended for UNC researchers (from any school) to apply for up to $10\,000 in funding to be spent at one or more SOM core facilities which invoice for services. This is specifically intended for NEW method development or PILOT DATA for currently unfunded projects that ALSO meets one of the following criteria:\n\nEstablishes the applicant as a new customer of at least one core facility\nCreates a multi-core pipeline\nAllows a customer of a core facility to use a new technique or methodology within a core they have previously used in other capacities (this is at the discretion of the core director)\n\nApplicants (who may be PIs or trainees)  will be required to meet with and have the written approval of the core directors for core facilities they intend to use at the time of submission and must plan to fully spend out their funds by June 30\, 2025. Carry-over of funds is not guaranteed\, and applicants should be aware that the technical feasibility to complete the study within the proposed timeframe will be an important factor in award decisions.\n\nCores which can be used are limited to those administered by the School of Medicine or who serve a majority-SOM customer base. To request an eligibility review of a non-SOM core\, please e-mail kara_clissold@med.unc.edu.\n\nPlease find the RFA and list of eligible cores attached and all information\, including necessary documentation\, a submission form template to aid in organizing the application\, core director/applicant signature forms\, and submission instructions\, can be found on the ORT/CFAC Voucher Program’s Website: https://www.med.unc.edu/corefacilities/core-voucher-program/\n\nApplications for the Voucher Program are now open for submission and will be due September 23\, 2024 at 11:59 pm \n\nPlease direct any questions about this program to Kara Clissold in the SOM Office of Research Technologies at kara_clissold@med.unc.edu
