SUMMARY:UNC Spatial Biology and Single Cell Symposium
DESCRIPTION:University of North Carolina researchers are invited to join Bruker Spatial Biology and the Pathology Services Core for an exciting and engaging afternoon filled with scientific innovation. Throughout the summit various single-cell experts will share best practices\, real world experiences\, and their enthusiasm for what’s to come in single-cell research! We invite you to stay for the whole event or join us for the session that best fits your research questions.\n\nNew to single-cell research? Single-cell research is a cutting-edge field in spatial biology that focuses on studying individual cells rather than bulk populations. This approach allows scientists to uncover cellular diversity\, understand complex biological systems\, and identify rare cell types that would otherwise be masked in averaged data. Cells are a fundamental unit of life. A comprehensive understanding of how cells organize themselves in different layers of information to form tissues is not yet fully achieved. Further\, no matter how seemingly homogeneous a tissue might appear\, it contains a diverse population of cells\, all of which represent different manifestations of that tissue type.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\nTitle\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:30AM\n\n\n\n\nCheck In & Introduction\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10:30 – 11:00AM\n\n\n\n\nBreaking the Spatial Whole Transcriptome Multiomic Ceiling with Unmatched Protein Discovery\n\n\n\n\nMartin Shelton\, PhD\, Associate Director\, Product Management\, Bruker Spatial Biology\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:00 – 11:30AM\n\n\n\n\nBiomarker Discovery and Validation Using CellScape Precise Spatial Proteomics\n\n\n\n\nJeff Stone\, Spatial Account Manager\, Bruker Spatial Biology & Gavin Gordon\, PhD\, VP of Market Development\, Bruker Spatial Biology\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:30AM – 12:15PM\n\n\n\n\nGrab Lunch!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n12:15 – 12:45PM\n\n\n\n\nSpatial Immunoprofiling of Invasive Breast Cancers\n\n\n\n\nAlyssa J. SUMMARY:MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry Workshop hosted by UNC Chemistry Core Facilities
DESCRIPTION:The workshop’s goal is to raise awareness about the Bruker UltrafleXtreme MALDI-TOF MS available at the UNC Mass Spectrometry Core Lab for open instrument access and sample submissions. Additionally\, we plan to provide MALDI-TOF users with useful knowledge and skills to help them succeed in their analyses. \nThis workshop\, conducted in partnership with Bruker Daltonics and UNC Mass Spectrometry (MSCL) and Soft Matter (UNCSMCL) core labs\, centers on the practical utilization of MALDI-TOF MS for precise mass measurement of small to macromolecular analytes that include many soft materials. Tailored for both current and prospective MALDI-TOF MS users\, the event highlights optimization strategies and practical applications while promoting collaboration within the scientific community. \nAttendees can participate in this event either in person or virtually. Space is limited for in-person attendance\, so be sure to register now. For those attending the in-person presentations\, join us for a light lunch where you may engage in open conversation with Bruker representatives\, UNC core lab directors\, and other scientists. There will also be a limited in-person sample preparation and instrument operation demonstration after lunch for invited current and prospective UNC MALDI-TOF users. \n  \nVisit the event webpage for a full schedule and registration information.

SUMMARY:Soft Matter Infrastructure Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Building upon the success of the Research Triangle Nanotechnology Network\, planning has begun between UNC-CH\, NCSU\, Duke\, and the University of Kansas to create a community formed around soft-matter infrastructure across our region and beyond. On June 10th\, we will be hosting a virtual kick-off from 12pm – 2:10pm and we’d be delighted if you and interested members in your group can join us. The agenda is attached and can also be found here. There is no cost to attend. \n  \nPlease distribute the attached flier to your networks who want to: \n\nBecome part of a community of users and researchers who leverage soft-matter shared research infrastructure\nIdentify soft-matter fabrication and characterization capabilities across the US that should be developed locally\nProvide input on services and support that will be most helpful to their research in soft matter\n\nDiscuss emerging technologies and vision for supporting the future of soft-matter research\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here and contact Cynthia Corley or Bob Geil with any questions. Please also consider joining our LinkedIn group here to continue the conversation after the symposium. \n  \nBest regards\, \nThe Soft Matter Infrastructure Symposium Planning Committee

SUMMARY:Mass Spectrometry Seminar Series
DESCRIPTION:Please join the UNC Metabolomics and Proteomics Core for a lunch and learn presented by Seer‘s Senior Field Applications Scientist\, Dr. Pierre Mbarushimana. Seer is a biotech company dedicated to transforming proteomics through innovative nanoparticle technology. By enabling the comprehensive and unbiased analysis of proteins across a wide dynamic range\, Seer’s platform empowers researchers to uncover novel biomarkers\, accelerate drug discovery\, and advance precision medicine.\n\nLunch will be provided but spots are limited\, so please RSVP here to attend.\n\nDetails:\nWhen? Wednesday April 23\, 2025; 12-1PM\nWhere? 2004 Marsico Hall (and virtually)\nWhat’s it about? Attending the Seer seminar will provide you with insights into an advanced nanoparticle technology that enables researchers to enrich both low- and high-abundance proteins across various sample types. By coupling Seer’s automated nanoparticle enrichment platform with mass spectrometry\, researchers can measure and quantify thousands of proteins that were previously undetectable.  Additionally\, we will present research and clinical studies that have leveraged this technology to identify novel biomarkers and drug targets.
