{"id":4144,"date":"2021-11-15T15:21:55","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T20:21:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/corefacilities\/?page_id=4144"},"modified":"2021-12-01T15:12:11","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T20:12:11","slug":"capital-equipment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/corefacilities\/ort\/resources-for-cores\/core-facilities-policy-and-guidelines-documentation\/capital-equipment\/","title":{"rendered":"Capital Equipment"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"section-som\"><span>Offices at UNC Involved with Capital Equipment<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Risk Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/campussafety.unc.edu\/risk-management\/\">Risk Management Services<\/a> handles insurance needs for the campus, including core equipment.\u00a0 The university carries basic equipment coverage, but some cores that are heavily dependent on expensive instrumentation may want to consider purchasing additional coverage through the university&#8217;s policies.\u00a0 This cost can be recouped through recharge rates. \u00a0 This is currently a core-by-core option.\u00a0 Please contact Risk Management Services to discuss options and get quotes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assets Management Office<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/finance.unc.edu\/services\/assets-management\/\">Assets Management<\/a> ensures the University\u2019s major inventory and equipment is recorded, monitored, and disposed of properly.\u00a0 New equipment that costs more than $5,000 is tagged and tracked by the office.\u00a0 Asset Management should be notified when ownership of equipment is transferred to a different unit, or equipment is re-located.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Surplus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sales of equipment to external entities is handled by the State <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.unc.edu\/services\/surplus\/\">Surplus System<\/a>. Proceeds from the sale are returned to the core, less a small amount in processing fees.
