Funding may be requested at any time and funding decisions are typically made within 3 business days.<\/p>\n<div>Applications can be submitted through the <u><a id=\"OWA18e9fe72-ae87-8779-5e81-5cc646785425\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/app.smartsheet.com\/b\/form\/6b9a4fedeb4d4ff8bca243ec908f3f0f\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">CFAC Emergency Funds Request Form,<\/a><\/u>\u00a0utilizing the instructions below.<\/div>\n<ul data-editing-info=\"{&quot;unorderedStyleType&quot;:2}\">\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">For the question \u201cSpecify the nature of this request\u201d please choose \u201cOption 5: CFAC Emergency Request&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>For the question \u201cWhich category is your emergency request?\u201d please choose \u201cRepair or replacement of core equipment due to a sudden or catastrophic event\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Unrecoverable Salary Expense Emergency Funds<\/h1>\n<div>The UNC School of Medicine (SOM) Core Facility Advocacy Committee (CFAC) is expanding its current Emergency Funding program to include salary and benefit support for the<b>\u00a0staff of SOM core facilities<\/b>\u00a0who take paid parental leave or other paid leave through or that meets eligibility for FMLA, which includes absences from work due to childbirth, adoption or foster care placement, or a serious health condition of an employee or an employee\u2019s spouse, child, or parent. Requests may also be considered to support the salary expenses of cores experiencing other catastrophic events that limit core operations. Emergency requests can be submitted at any time during the year. Funding does not provide additional hours of paid sick or vacation leave for core personnel but instead will provide an alternate funding source for the duration of paid leave that meets eligibility or the duration the core is unable to operate.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Funding can be requested as soon as leave dates are known or retroactively within the same fiscal year. Funding requestors will need to provide the known dates of FMLA leave taken, but no additional information about the reason for leave is required to apply. Changes in payroll funding source will occur retroactively for each pay period, and the CFAC business manager will work with the core staff\u2019s departmental business manager to complete the personnel actions. Funding decisions will be made at the CFAC meeting following the request submission (2nd Wednesday of the month).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Requesting coverage for other catastrophic events that limit core operations or other \u201cunrecoverable expenses\u201d is limited to significant events that force the core to close or significantly reduce operations. Please see the table below for examples of both eligible and ineligible events.
